The Fenelon Orchards

Living landscape, ecology and quality of life are at the heart of this project, which was driven by the desire to fulfil the site’s landscape and ecological potential.

At territory level, the site is designed as a key component of the ecological chain, as shown by the creation of ecological spaces complementing each other. Thus, a forest edge composed of native tree species works as an extension of the adjacent forest. It opens up onto a landscape made up of diversified strata and balanced densities, which enhance the topography of the site and create spaces of manageable size.

The density has been used in a way that it can sustain ecological continuity within the project throughout the management phase. The edible landscape will stretch from the forest edge all the way to the vegetable garden and the orchard. The surfaces will be made permeable to allow rainwater to move into and through it and reduce the urban heat island effects.

Hedgerows and espalier fruit trees will offer future residents an exceptional view over a changeable landscape, which will allow for the creation of various spaces in the future such as allotment gardens.
