An orchard and a vegetable garden promoting biodiversity
The different terraces of the Galeries Lafayette headquarter boast amazing features: they are sunny, sheltered and in the centre of Paris. The conditions are ideals to create a garden that offers edible plants (vegetable garden) and elements of biodiversity (beehive and compost). Hundreds of vegetable and aromatic plants are being grown in the Bacsac colourful fabric square pots, made specifically for the terraces. An orchard – apple and pear trees – is planted in wooden containers and is used as a windbreaker. A vine is growing on the south facing walls. Red berries – currant and raspberry bushes – complete the vegetable garden. And last but not least, the handrails and railings allow the climbing and pollen-producing plants to grow and be a source of food for the bees.
